The Colors of Winter

Canadian winters, admittedly, have a less-than-favorable reputation with those not thrilled with the promise of hiemal days and brumal nights. Conversely, not only is snow enchantingly beautiful in reality, but it is as warm as the glow of topaz. You only need to embrace it. If you look profusely, you’ll see this beautiful season brimming with subnivean secrets. It’s filled with unique beauty and wonders, like winter flurries flying in the sky, a fresh layer of white powder falling on the ground, and frost-covered branches dancing in the wind.

There is just something beautiful about walking on snow that nobody else has walked on. There is just a balming effect in soaking yourself up in apricity. There is just a distinctive feel in the fresh and sparkling air on a frozen day. The snow crystals fluttering in the sky, the purple sunsets casting shadows, the golden lining on the frost stricken spruce bending low with the weight of icy delicacy, the hues of white, and the sun reflecting upon the glistening snow. If this is not a miracle, a wonder, a display of The Creator’s master creativity then what else is?

The beauty and the colorfulness of winter can not be encapsulated in a bunch of words, it needs an eye to behold the colors of winter.

A couple of months ago, I captured some pictures of autumn hues on our regular walking trail and posted a blog post about it [click here to see]. This time of the year, I couldn’t resist capturing the winter hues while walking on the same track and sharing them in my January blog post for a comparison and contrast, and for you to see how brutally fascinating our mother nature could be.

While appreciating the serenity of a snow-covered landscape and taking in the crisp air of winter, we easily tend to overlook how pliantly and effortlessly the hues of winter pave their way. It’s like you go to bed in one kind of world and wake up to find yourself in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment, where is it to be found?

Sometimes all you need is love…and a little bit of snow!

Have ‘an Ice’ day!
